WELLINGTON bounced back to winning form in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League with a 21-run away victory over Bridgwater 2nd XI.
Wellington, who won the toss and chose to bat first, scored 291 all out in 49-3 overs - their highest total of the season.
In a game affected by rain, Bridgwater eventually finished on 247-9 after facing a revised target of 269.
Jacob Hurry was Wellington’s top scorer, hitting 95 with 11 fours and four sixes, his innings coming off 123 balls. After Wellington had lost two early wickets, Hurry shared in a third-wicket stand of 175 with Sri Lankan Lakshan Edirisinghe who made 73 in quick time with ten fours and two sixes.
Wicket-keeper Callum Hendy scored 23, Nathan Yarde 16 and Ben Evett 14 with Wellington losing their last four wickets for only 11 runs. Chris Singleton took 3-20 off 7.3 overs, Seth Locke 2-61 and Max O’Farrell, also 2-61.
The target of 292 to win was always going to be difficult in the wet conditions and this was eventually revised to 269 from 38 overs. Bridgwater also lost two early wickets but Chris Skidmore (53) and O’Farrell (15) took the score to more than 100 with a third-wicket partnership of 83.
Tom Furzland (41) and Singleton (68 not out) kept Bridgwater in the chase but with the run-rate becoming much more difficult the home side eventually found themselves 22 runs short of their target with nine wickets down.
Wellington skipper Arron Campbell took 3-40, including the crucial wicket of Skidmore when he was playing well, while Yarde took 3-41 and Toby Stirzaker 2-33.
This was only Wellington’s third victory of the season and they moved up to seventh in the table while Temple Cloud remain top despite their home match against Yeovil being abandoned through rain.
