KILVE 147

WELLINGTON 148-5

WELLINGTON sent out a different Club XI last Sunday afternoon as another set of players got the chance to play in 2020 and they recorded a five-wicket win over West Somerset League Club Kilve CC who reported they had used two completely different sides over the weekend too, writes David Derrick.

The game was always on the file as it was a Taunton and District Sunday League Division A game originally, and it was Kilve which suggested it was played as planned but without league status once the chance for recreational cricket arose, and the Red and Blacks agreed.

Kilve chose to bat first and saw Worthington with a good knock of 51 as Curry with 22 lent support in their innings which had 40 overs allocated to it.

Wellington used all players in a bowling capacity other than wicket keeper Jacob Hurry and this saw Jack Beal and Jake Nichol take the new ball and offer Kilve plenty to think about early on.

Macaulay Campbell with two wickets broke the opening stand that Kilve posted with 30 on the board as Jake Nichol took a decent catch.

When Campbell bowled Kilve keeper Hammond for a duck on his way to 2-18 in four overs the visitors were 38-2 but Crockett joined Worthington and took the score to 80 before a third success came Wellington’s way as Crockett got into a tangle and was run out for ten.

Varying styles of spin as delivered by Connor Wickenden, Alex Derbridge and Rob Moysey accounted for most of the rest of the Kilve line up with Ryan Adams and his medium pace taking the other one to leave Wellington needing 148 to win as Kilve did not use 5.5 overs.

Nathan Roberts, with 50 retired not out, and Rob Moysey, who was stumped for a fine 45, put on 97 in great style for Wellington’s opening with Roberts making great shots and scoring at a good rate.

Jack Beal slammed three fours in making 13 and with Ryan Adams making a cool 21 Wellington were closing in on a win and it was achieved when Macaulay Campbell hit a four as good support came his way from young players Jacob Hurry and Ollie Hunt.

Many thanks to all who got the club ready in a Covid-19 secure manner and to all for adhering to the new ways the club had to work across a weekend when it played at home and on the road.
