SOMERSET County Cricket Club have signed Daniel Sams, a 33 year Australian international quick bowler, who will be available for the whole of next T20 competition.
The Cidermen enter the 2026 campaign as reigning champions and having won the trophy twice in the last three years the signing of Sams shows their fans that they aim to hang onto it.
A regular in global white ball franchise cricket, Sams has featured in a total of 206 T20 matches in his career, claiming 250 wickets at an average of 24.63 with a best of five for 30. In those matches he has also amassed over 2170 runs with a best of 98 not out at a strike rate of 152.66.
As well as impressing in the IPL, the Big Bash, the CPL, the PSL and The Hundred, the left-arm seamer has experience of the English game, having represented Essex and Nottinghamshire. 2023 saw him finish the season as the Vitality Blast MVP after scoring 419 runs and taking 25 wickets as his Essex side finished as runners up to Somerset.
After signing for Somerset, the Aussie pacer said: “This is an exciting opportunity and hopefully I can help the team retain the trophy.
“Having played against Somerset, I know how good a T20 side they are and I’m looking forward to being a part of the team. I know a few of the guys already and I’ll be doing everything that I can to help them win games,” Somerset Director of Cricket Andy Hurry said : “Daniel has shown his quality all around the world and we are delighted that he will be joining us.
“He has demonstrated over the last few years that he can excel and really impact games in English conditions, and he will certainly bring a powerful blend of bowling finesse, explosive batting, and all-round adaptability.”
