WELLINGTON 2ND XI 154-9

TICC CURRY RIVAL 155-5

WELLINGTON 2nd XI are down to fourth place in the Somerset League’s eight-team Covid Playing Bubble Eleven following this five-wicket defeat at Curry Rivel CC last Saturday where the Red and Blacks second string was hosted by new SCL Club TICC Curry Rivel.

Wellington’s opponents are a group of players of Indian background who had played for Taunton CC in the past, but who have now set up their own club based at Curry Rivel CC, hence Taunton Indians CC, Curry Rivel or TICC Curry Rivel.

On losing the toss Wellington were asked to bat first and they saw Nathan Roberts play an outstanding knock of 76 as he occupied the crease until the last throes of the innings.

Knocks of 19 from Andy Hurry and 16 from Jacob Hurry along with 15 from Ryan Adams aided Roberts as Wellington went to 154-9 at ‘tea’.

Tyler Fyfe struck a blow for Wellington’s chances of victory with the removal of Jijo for eight with the score on 12, but knocks of 23 from Sajil, 24 from Raneesh and a match-winning 53no from Santin saw that TICC took 34 points to Wellington’s 12 as wickets came the way of Andy Hurry, Alex Troake and Oliver Hansard.

Wellington 2nd XI hosts Taunton 3rd XI tomorrow (Saturday), starting from 1.30pm.
