TAUNTON DEANE 5TH XI 132-9

WELLINGTON 2ND XI 133-3

WELLINGTON 2nd XI are top of the Somerset League’s Covid Playing Bubble Eleven after this seven-wicket win over Taunton Deane’s fifth string at home last Saturday, writes David Derrick.

Alex Troake’s side overcame a team who would, ordinarily in 2020, have played the Red and Blacks’ third string in Division Eight South of the Somerset Cricket League.

Deane opted to bat first and this saw them indebted to knocks of 35 from Crosland, 22no from Kelly and 21 from Jarrett, who got them to 132-9 in their 40 overs after Wellington’s attack had made some inroads. Ollie Hunt collected one victim and Alex Derbridge two with places of honour in the attack going to Ryan Adams with 3-9 in five overs and Connor Wickenden with 3-24 in eight overs.

Good control was shown by skipper Troake who let just 18 runs go and his side would need 133 to win. They got there with plenty of overs and time to spare with Trevor Brooks leading the way with an unbeaten 51no, helped all the way by Jacob Hurry’s 17, Oli Beale’s 10 and Alex Derbridge’s 14 as 13.4 overs went unused in achieving 34 good points for the side.

Next time out for the side tomorrow (Saturday) is a visit to Curry Rivel CC to take on new SCL side TICC Curry Rivel CC who are not part of the Curry Rivel club but use it as their home ground in rotation with the established club. They were due to play in Division Seven South in normal times – game to begin at 1.30pm.
