WELLINGTON go into Saturday’s home game against title-chasing Glastonbury still in trouble near the bottom of the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Division (12.30), writes Barry Knott.

They will also need to bounce back after their collapse at Chard over the weekend in which they lost their last seven wickets for five runs. “We have been getting ourselves into a winning position but have been relying on the lower order to get us over the line,” said skipper Alex Sparks.

“Anyone can beat anyone in this division, so we feel we have a good chance of beating Glastonbury. We beat them earlier this season. We have been good this season at bouncing back after a poor result, so I’m hoping this will be the case on Saturday.

“I think the relegation battle is going to go down to the wire – probably to our last game which is at home to Wembdon. Sparks added: “Fortunately we’re only three points behind Frome who are just above us. I’m confident we can avoid going down. Obviously we want to stay in this division. It’s better cricket and everyone wants to play at the highest level possible.”

Wellington’s only other game this season is Saturday week away to North Perrott. The following week they are home to Wembdon who have fifth in the table but have won only one more game than Wellington.

Ashbrittle are home to third-placed Cheddar in the Premier Division of the Somerset League on Saturday.
