WELLINGTON will be looking to step up the pressure at the top of the Somerset Division in the West of England Premier Cricket League when they play away to Wembdon this Saturday.
Arron Campbell’s boys moved up to third in the table after gaining a spirited six-wicket victory at home to Taunton Deane 2nd XI at the Playing Field over the weekend.
However, it was a far from straight-forward win with Wellington in deep trouble at 28-4 when chasing a victory target of 149.
They were rescued by skipper Campbell who made 39 not out and his deputy Luke Desave who was 67 not out, the pair sharing in a unbroken match-winning partnership of 121.
Desave was Man of the Match, having taken 4-7 earlier in the afternoon as the Deane struggled to 148-5 on a damp wicket.
Wellington 2nd XI are also away - to bottom side Huish and Langport in Division Five of the Monmouth Scientific Somerset League.
Wiveliscombe, new leaders of the first division in the West Somerset League, are away to Bagborough who knocked table-toppers Ashbrittle off the top over the weekend with an exciting six-run success.
Ashbrittle have no game this Saturday which means Wiveliscombe can stretch their lead of 15 points if they win at Bagborough.
On Friday there is youth team action with Wellington at home to Taunton St Andrews Wyvern in the Under 13 11s West section of the Taunton and District Youth League.
There is also a full programme of matches in the league on Sunday.
