WELLINGTON 2nd XI stay in ninth place in Division One of the Somerset League, having lost a run-laiden game at second placed Broadway and Horton where almost 550 runs were scored, writes David Derrick.

Wellington chose to bat first and Ollie Hunt and Aks Latifi added 44 runs to set the tone for a day. Latifi, in good form with both the bat and gloves, hit 35 in 34 balls with seven fours to be second out with the score at 57.

Pulsating play resulted in a 110 run third wicket stand for Wellington between Brendan Poole (57 in 79 balls with five fours and a six) and Charlie Burrough (61 in 55 balls with eight fours and three sixes) as they dominated a home attack.

Ben Evett and Oscar Milton with a pair of fast paced 25s topped off Wellington's excellent total and with Justin Joseph hitting 14 not out a final score of 271-8 was made in 45 overs. For Broadway and Horton Pike with 2-46 in nine overs and Derham with 2-50 enjoyed some success with the ball.

Three catches behind the wicket by Latifi from Justin Joseph and Oscar Milton's bowling saw Broadway slip to 35-3 and Wellington were well in the game - or so it seemed.

A chanceless fourth wicket stand of 184 transpired between Gibbs who hit a steady 51 with five fours in 72 balls and Smith with a violent innings of 129 not out in 84 balls with 15 fours and six sixes.

Justin Joseph claimed his second wicket to break the stand at 219-4, but only Evett who trapped J.Pedlar LBW was successful with the ball thereafter as the home side cruised home by five wickets with over ten overs to spare to collect 34 points to Wellington's 15. A massive 71 extras compounded Wellington's time in the field.
