WELLINGTON will be chasing their third successive victory when they play at home to struggling Chard in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League today (Saturday, 1.00).

Having lost their opening four matches, Wellington have made it two in succession with wins over North Petherton and Temple Cloud.

“All our hard work in pre-season is beginning to pay off,” said skipper Alex Sparks who was again in form in the seven-run win over Temple Cloud on Saturday. He made 58 in a score of 264-9 in their 50 overs with Ben Evett scoring 45 and Matt Bray 44.

In reply, Temple Cloud came up eight runs short of their target, making 257-8.

Sparks added: “We’re looking to build some momentum and will be looking to do this against Chard. This would put us in a healthy mid-table position but we have to keep sight of the fact that this is a very competitive division.”

Ashbrittle have no match in the Premier Division of the Somerset League but return to action the following weekend with a home game against Butleigh. Wellington 2nd XI are away to Lympsham and Belvedere in Division Four.

Wiveliscombe, top of the first division in the West Somerset League, are home to Bridgetown while rivals Roadwater are home to fifth-placed Holford.
