CHARD 98-9
WELLINGTON 99-3
WELLINGTON stormed into their first Baker Cup semi-final since 1997 with this dominant seven-wicket win at Chard on Monday and now play North Petherton at Taunton this coming Monday, writes David Derrick.
The winners of this tie will play either Taunton, who have won the tournament a record number of times, and Taunton St Andrews who play in the other semi-final. As for this game Wellington were always in command after Chard had opted to bat first as they were restricted to just less than 100 in their 20 overs.
Wellington needed 99 to win and set about it well as Aks Latifi pulled the first ball for four and he added 17 opening wicket runs with Zandre Swartz when he was out caught.
South African Swartz was in the kind of batting mood which had seen him score a mighty ton in the previous round and he was out for 39 as Wellington lost their second wicket on 61.
Alex Sparks with a composed 36 not out and Arron Campbell with eight not out saw Wellington home with a full 6.3 overs to spare.
