WELLINGTON Croquet Club have launched a drive for new members.

It follows a successful Open Day at Oake earlier this month in which novices turned out to learn from club members the basic shots and rules of croquet before enjoying refreshments of tea and cake.

Anyone who would like to have free individual tuition can make arrangements to do so by ringing the club secretary Anne Woodford on 01823 667299 or come along to one of the club afternoons at Oake (beside the church), which are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons 2.30 to 4.30 p.m.

Anne said: “We welcome all ages and sexes and we would particularly like to introduce younger people to this challenging but enjoyable game.

“It is possible to progress to playing in league matches, and further still to national and even international level for those who are skilled and competitive enough to reach a sufficient standard of play.

“Alternatively if you just want a new hobby and like meeting new people this is just the answer as well as being good exercise and mentally stimulating.

“There will always be a friendly welcome to you and any friends you may bring.”
