THE final of Wellington Ex-Services Skittles League’s 2019-20 Cyril Hicks Singles Competition is being staged at the Cottage Inn this evening (Friday, 8pm start).
It follows the return of skittles last Friday at the Conservative Club where 16 players were involved in two groups to decide the finalists.
It started with the 8pm group where Kevin Parsons stepped up like he had never been away with a first hand score of 15.
The top four scores in this group were Parsons (60), John Goldsworthy (54), Craig Newstead (53) and Cameron White scrapping in on 48.
The 9pm group had only five players, so only one skittler had to go out and it started very friendly with Paul Beer top dog with 60, Andy Chappell with 57 and Andy Kemp with 45.
The highlight of this group was the one-hand play-off between Rob Higgs and Steve Trevelyan, who both knocked 44.
Higgs was unlucky with two of his three balls going through and scoring only three, leaving Trevelyan the winner with a hand of eight to secure the last spot.
The finalists tonight, observing all Covid-19 advice, are: Steve Trevelyan (Ex-Servicemen), Andy Kemp (OBA), Cameron White (Cottage Pies), Craig Newstead (Scuppas), John Goldsworthy (Cottage Pies), Andy Chappell (Allstars), Paul Beer (OBA) and Kevin Parsons (Reservists).
nWellington Ex-Services Skittles League is hoping to play league games from the middle of next month but a decision will not be made until the annual meeting at the Football Club next Friday (September 18). The league want to know how many teams are interested in playing this winter in view of Covid-19.
