WELLINGTON’S goal-scoring midfielder Sam Towler has become a target for ex-Southern League club Bridgwater Town, writes Barry Knott.

Bridgwater, who now play in the same division as Wellington in the Toolstation League, have put in seven days notice of approach for Towler.

“I think at the moment it’s 50/50 whether he stays or goes,” said Wellington manager Clive Jones. “Obviously I don’t want to lose him. He’s had a good season.

“I think he’s good enough to play at a higher level but my hope is that he will finish the season with us.

“Obviously, Bridgwater pay some players and we don’t. That’s something I don’t want to talk about at the moment. You cannot suddenly start paying out money midway through a season.

“Maybe the club will have to sit down sometime and decide where they want to be. I believe we’re in the same position as we’ve always been.

“You will never be able to hold onto your best players if they want to better themselves. That’s always been the case. It was in my time as a player - you want to play at the highest level.”
