WELLINGTON face three successive home games in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League, starting with a match against Roman Glass St George this coming Saturday (3.00), writes Barry Knott.
The game against Roman Glass is very much winnable, but this is followed by matches against title-chasing Westbury United (Saturday, January 26) and sixth-placed Plymouth Parkway (Saturday, February 2) who have games in hand on all the teams above them.
Wellington lost 2-0 away to Buckland Athletic over the weekend but manager Clive Jones was far from disappointed by the side’s performance.
“Buckland have some top players but we played all the football, especially in the first half,” said Jones. “We held our own in the second half but couldn’t break them down.
“We also lost Jack Bryant and Mitch Woodgate with injuries which meant we were forced to make changes we didn’t want.
“I’m disappointed we lost but I can handle that. We just need a little more rub of the green. It’s something we’re not getting at the moment.”
Roman Glass are lying 17th in the table, two places below Wellington. It will be the first meeting between the sides this season.
Wellington Reserves, who gained a goalless draw at home to Hatherleigh Town in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League, are away to fifth-placed Heavitree Unite Reserves. Wellington stay at the foot of the table but only two points separate the bottom four teams.
Hemyock are hoping to get back on the winning trail when they play at home to Millwey Rise in Division Four.
