WELLINGTON end a run of six successive away matches when they play at home to Helston Athletic in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western Football League on Saturday, September 6 (3p.m.).

Wellington will be looking to avenge a 2-1 defeat by Helston when the sides met in Cornwall on the opening day of the new season.

Since then Wellington have played four more away matches in the league, winning 1-0 at Bridgwater in their most recent game, drawing two and losing at Buckland Athletic, while they also lost at Bideford in the opening round of the FA Cup.

Wellington share their ground at the Playing Field with the local cricket club who always play on it until the end of August.

New Wellington boss Josh Stunell goes into the match against Helston with a draw and a victory since taking charge.

Wellington will be back on their travels the following Saturday when they play away to Saltash United in another league game.

Meanwhile Wellington Reserves, who beat East Budleigh 5-3 away in their opening match of the season in the Premier Division of the Devon & Exeter League, have no match until they play at home to Lyme Regis on Saturday, September 13.

* Work is well under way to installing Wellington’s new floodlights at the Playing Field.

The four poles - situated near each corner of the pitch - will replace the previous eight poles.

The new LED lights will be more energy efficient than the aging old lights and will not have to be taken down every year before the start of the new cricket season.

The next few weeks will also see the erection of the club’s new perimeter fence - yet more commitment to the club’s long-term future at the Playing Field.
