STAPLEGROVE vs Wellington Wanderers U11: A late change of plans set the scene for Wellington Wanderers U11, as the fixture was reversed at short notice due to a waterlogged pitch at home.

Despite the disruption and several enforced changes caused by unavailability, Wellington started the game with real intent and confidence.

The Wanderers settled quickly, moving the ball with purpose and showing composure in possession. Their early passing sequences were excellent, with players rotating well and finding pockets of space to build attacks. For the opening stages, Wellington looked the more comfortable side, dictating the tempo and demonstrating the progress they’ve made this season.

As the half wore on, however, the physical demands of the reshuffled line‑up began to show. Tired legs led to a few misplaced passes, allowing Staplegrove opportunities to break forward. The hosts grew into the game and created several chances, but Wellington’s determination never wavered. In increasingly heavy conditions, the team showed impressive character, working hard to recover shape, support teammates, and stay competitive.

A special mention must go to the versatile Jack Pitts, who once again proved invaluable across multiple positions. Whether defending, linking play, or driving forward, Jack showed a cool head in possession and consistently looked after the ball. His adaptability and calmness were a real asset throughout.

What stood out most, though, was the togetherness across the entire squad. Every player dug in, encouraged one another, and contributed to a performance full of resilience and team spirit—exactly what youth football should be about.

A huge thank you, as always, goes to the side’s shirt sponsor Roadchef and the ball sponsor R&M Motors for their continued support throughout the season so far.

The Wellington youngsters and club officials would like to wish everyone a happy festive time.
