IAN Nott, one of the best goalkeepers to come out of Wellington, if not the best, could return to the club in a ‘consultative’ role.

“I’ve had a chat with Ian and will be talking to him again this week,” said Wellington manager Clive Jones, who has been great friends with Nott for years.

“I need someone to bounce some ideas off of and he is very knowledgeable about football,” said Jones.

“He would also be good to have around for our goalkeeper Mitch Woodgate.”

Jones is looking to replace ex-boss Mike Hawes who has cut his ties with the Toolstation League club to take a break from football.

Nott, who spent much of his career playing for Tiverton Town and won a Vase medal with the Devon club, would almost certainly have played in the Football League had he not combined football with motorbike scrambling.

Meanwhile Wellington, who were unlucky to lose at Chipping Sodbury on Saturday, will be in action again tonight (Nov 11) when they play Chard Town in a local derby.

Chard have a reputation for being physical but Jones says he has no worries on that score.

“We have players who can handle that – it doesn’t interest me.”

Jack Porter, who is in the RAF, returns to the side and Jones is hoping Jamie Clough, who has missed the last six games with a foot injury, will declare himself it.

“He need him (Clough) – he has quality,” added Jones.

Chard, who have already lost four home games this season, are lying fifth in the table and are managed by ex-Wellington player Adam Fricker.

Wellington are home to Radstock Town in another league game on Saturday (3.00).

Wellington Reserves are away to Budleigh Salterton Reserves in the first division of the Devon and Exeter League while Wellington Thirds are home to unbeaten leaders Tivvy Park Rangers in Division Seven.

Hemyock play away to first division table-toppers Exmouth Amateurs in a postponed Devon Senior Cup tie which should have been played over the weekend because of the bad weather.
