WELLINGTON’S football manager Tim Legg believes he has a strong enough squad to leave himself out of the first team, writes Barry Knott.

Wellington drew 3-3 at home against Street in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League last timeout and face top of the table Bradford Town at home on Saturday (3.00).

Legg, who has been an influential player for Wellington in recent seasons, said: “I think to be a good manager you have to apply your mind to managing rather than playing. I think there are strong defenders in the squad to keep me out.”

The former Southern League player added: “I see myself as coaching and managing the side. I cannot see myself playing - at least not at the moment.”

Bradford, who have won 13 of their 15 league games, have a three-point lead at the top of the table over second-placed Plymouth Parkway who have a game in hand. The fight for the title is expected to be between these two sides. Legg admits he knows very little about Bradford although “they are obviously a good side and have scored a lot of goals.”

Legg now has a squad of 19 players and believes all will be available for Saturday’s tough game.

“I can only choose 16 so it means three will be left to play for the Reserves or other sides,” added Legg who has yet to win a game since he took over from Clive Jones.

Wellington Reserves are away to third-placed Thorverton in the first division of the Devon and Exeter League while Hemyock, who play in the third division, have no match until the New Year.

Wellington A, who top Division Two in the Invest Southwest Taunton Saturday League, are away to Bridgwater & Albion, while Wellington side Moortown, who play in the first division of the Keyline Somerset Sunday League, have no game until they play at home to West Monkton on Saturday, January 5.
