WELLINGTON Reserves gained their second home win in four days when they beat Crediton United Reserves 4-1 in the Premier Division of the Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter Football League at home at the Carly Press Ground on Saturday, April 4.
They got off to the best possible start by taking the lead after only five minutes, Wes Poulsom shooting home after being fed by Jack Bryant.
Wellington doubled their advantage on the half-hour as Luke Perry’s corner was met with a towering header from distance by Tom Davies.
Crediton were given a lifeline five minutes into the second half when they pulled one back through an own goal.
But Wellington sealed the points with a double strike – Sam Bryant converting another Perry corner before his brother Jack produced an unstoppable volley from a Dylan Groves pull-back.
The Reserves moved up into third in the table, trailing leaders Upottery by six points, both sides having played the same number of matches.
Luke Perry was named as player of the match which was sponsored by Joe Conway of Conway Cladding.
In the big match of the day, Upottery gained a thrilling 4-3 home win over Winkleigh who dropped back to fourth in the table, although they have a couple of games in hand on the main rivals above them.
Sidmouth Town Reserves, who were lying second, kept up their challange for the championship after winning 4-2 at home to Lyme Regis. It meant they stayed five points behind Upottery but have two crucial matches in hand.
In the only other game played in the Premier Division, St Martin’s gained a 4-1 away success against Ottery St Mary to remain in the top half of the table, while Ottery still have some work to do to avoid relegation.
