WELLINGTON Wildcats are through to the final of the Somerset Girls Football League’s Under 15 Cup after an enthralling 2-1 away victory over league runners-up Swiss Valley Rangers.

From the first whistle, early nerves were settled with the combination of Kacie W and Lily F working tirelessly in midfield to break up play. This allowed Flo G on the left, Lola S on the right and Emilia S and Faith NH through the middle time and space to carve out early half chances.

The pattern continued and as Swiss gained a foothold, they used the right channel up the slope causing some problems but Darcey B, who was under intense pressure time and again, dealt with the threat. However, a rare Swiss shot from outside the box in the 27th minute beat the jumping keeper to open the scoring.

Wildcats thought they had equalised almost immediately via Emilia S only to be ruled offside.

Two minutes later a Faith NH corner found Lily F who scored with a bullet header to equalise.

Playing uphill into a wind in the second half, goalkeeper Lleya T, used her technique well to distribute the ball and to provide her attack with options.Jess B and Isla C, in defence, put on a masterclass in shielding and defending denying any clear chances which was a real point of difference. Immy M, Willow P, Darcey B and Frankie P all played their part holding firm at the back and that was the telling point.

Rotating Faith NH, Emilia S and Hallie SW as striker created chances with Flo G on the left using the ball well. It was on the right, having waited patiently all half to receive the ball, Lola S on 68 minutes beat her defender and her cross found POTM Lily F who calmly scored her second and the winning goal.
