WELLINGTON, hammered 8-0 by Roman Glass St George only 11 days ago, have the chance of quick revenge when the sides play each other in the preliminary round of the Les Phillips Cup at the Playing Field tonight (Wed, 7.45).
It will be Wellington’s first home game of the season and they go into tonight’s tie with plenty of confidence after Saturday’s stunning 3-0 away win over Brislington in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League.
“It would be hard to improve on that performance, it was so good,” said stand-in manager Paul Pocock. “It was superb.
“It was one of those days when everything clicked. In the end Brislington ran out of ideas. We were good in the first half and even better in the second half.”
Tim Legg and club captain Sam Bryant are both carrying injuries and may not be risked tonight, and Joe Wylie has a college match in the afternoon and would not be expected to play twice in a day.
One of the outstanding features of Saturday’s victory at Brislington was the inclusion of three 17-year-olds in Wellington’s squad - Wylie, Lewis Pocock and Ollie Holman who replaced Sam Bryant.
Wellington have another home game on Saturday when they play one of the pre-season title favourites for the Premier Division Bridgwater Town whose side will include some former Wellington players.
Manager Clive Jones will miss tonight’s game but will be back for Saturday’s game against Bridgwater who should attract a good crowd.
