WELLINGTON A slumped to a 9-2 defeat against new leaders Dunwear United in the Premier Division of the Centregreat Taunton & District Saturday Football League.
With most games called off because of the atrocious wet weather, this match went ahead on the 3G pitch at the Bridgwater College Academy.
Wellington went ahead after 20 minutes with a goal by Cam Perry-Jones but they found themselves trailing 3-1 at the interval.
Tom Scarlett managed to score again for Wellington in the second half but they could not prevent United gaining a big victory to go top on goal difference from Wembdon who have four games in hand.
“We fielded a weakened side,” said Wellington’s manager Warren Toth afterwards. “We would have given them a far better game if we had been at full strength.”
In another game at the Bridgwater College Sports Centre, Galmington beat Staplegrove Reserves 4-3 on penalties after a goal-less draw in a Rowbarton Charity Cup-tie.
