WELLINGTON were set to parade new signings in last night’s (Thursday’s) first pre-season soccer friendly at Minehead.

New faces included Jessie Howe, a former striker with Tiverton Town, Harry Walford, who plays in midfield and came up through Exeter City’s Academy, and Cam Sanford, another midfielder who has played for Weston-super-Mare and Shepton Mallet.

There were other new players. “We want to have a look at them and they want to have a look at us,” said Wellington boss Tim Legg before the game. “It’s no good signing a player if we don’t know what he’s like.”

Wellington train on Monday before playing away to Axminster Town in another warm-up game on Thursday. Other friendlies lined up for the first team, all away, are: August 19 Middlezoy Rovers, August 26 Exwick Villa, August 29 Ilfracombe Town, September 4 Topsham Town.

Wellington are one of 737 clubs accepted for this year’s FA Cup, with the preliminary round to be played on Saturday, September 1.
