WELLINGTON continue a run of five successive away games in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League with two matches in the next three days, writes Barry Knott.

It brings the curtain down on an up and down winter for Wellington who knew it would not be easy in the Premier Division after winning the title in Division One last season.

It was a question, too, of playing catch-up football after a poor start when they had to play a number of away matches.

Wellington boss Clive Jones has already agreed to stay on for a further year and has said he will be announcing changes to the club’s management with the appointment of an assistant manager and he will also be putting in place a new man to run the reserves who have struggled this season.

Wellington, who play at Longwell Green Sports today and Melksham on Saturday, lost 2-0 at Hengrove over the weekend, and Jones said: “We simply weren’t at the races. I think the lads struggled after playing on Thursday.

“I do not want to finish the season like this. Supporters who make the effort to travel deserve better. We still need another victory to reach my target of 40 points for the season. So far it’s 38.”

Wellington Reserves are not in action until next Tuesday when they play away to fellow strugglers Alphington Reserves who are only one place above them in the table. It’s a match they must win.

Wellington end their season in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League with a match at Cadbury Heath tomorrow week.
