WELLINGTON Reserves made a flying start to the new season in the Premier Division of the StitchPrint Devon & Exeter Football League with a splendid 4-0 away victory over Crediton United Reserves.
Player-manager Mark Owen, one of four substitutes, said afterwards: “It was a truly dominate display. In fact we were so on top we didn’t allow Crediton one scoring chance.
“It was a fine all-round performance with all the players, including the substitutes, playing their part.”
Wellington, whose side included six players who have played for the first team in the Jewson League this season, went ahead after half an hour with a goal by Sam Bryant who netted direct from a free-kick.
And they added to their lead just before the interval when Alfie Barratt fired home after the Crediton keeper had parried a shot.
The Reserves made sure of taking away all three points when Connor Pengelly headed home from a corner only five minutes into the second half.
Ollie Nott completed the scoring following a faultless display by the Reserves by netting a fourth goal from the penalty spot after 70 minutes.
