WELLINGTON started life under new manager Josh Stunell with a goalless draw away to Nailsea & Tickenham in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League.

For his first game, he was without central defender Tom Stone (unavailable) while midfielder Jack Winsor was only fit enough for a place on the bench after suffering concussion in midweek.

That meant debuts for two new signings, central defender Jake Haggerty and wide man Reece McCabe.

In stifling weather and on a difficult playing surface, the game was never likely to be a classic and neither side produced enough to clinch victory.

Wellington had slightly the better of the first half with Mark Cornish volleying over and seeing a header gathered under the bar.

At the other end, young keeper Charlie Hawkings produced a great reaction save to prevent an own goal from a rare home attack.

It was more of the same after the break with the Tangerines taking the game to Nailsea who had yet to register a point this season.

But it was the hosts who almost made breakthrough after 67 minutes as Hawkings again did well, this time clawing away a looping header before the ball was scrambled clear.

The closest Wellington came to scoring was four minutes later when Oscar Albano pounced on some hesitant defending. He bore down on goal and squared to Alfie Slough whose effort from close range was blocked on the line by a Nailsea defender with the keeper beaten.

When the final whistle blew, it was the Tangerines’ second draw of the season and the first time they had failed to score in their five games.
