WELLINGTON Reserves gained a splendid 1-1 draw away to top of the table Upottery in the Premier Division of the Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter Football League.

It was another good result on the road for the Reserves which enabled them to stay fifth in the table with 27 points from their 17 league matches.

Connor Pengelly scored the only goal for Wellington while player of the match was Ollie Nott.

Despite dropping points against Wellington, Upottery held on top spot in the division, stretching their lead over second-placed Winkleigh who went down 3-1 away to Feniton. Winkleigh, however, have two crucial matches in hand.

In the only other match played in the Premier Division, Clyst Rovers were 2-1 winners at home over East Budleigh. It enabled Rovers to move three points clear of bottom side Colyton.

Wellington Reserves now have a run of six successive home games, starting on Wednesday (April 1) when Feniton visit the Carly Press Ground.

On Saturday, April 4, they are due to play Crediton United, again on the main pitch at the Playing Field (3 p.m.) while they meet St Martins the following Wednesday (7.30 a.m.).

Meanwhile Wellington A have ended their season in the Premier Division of the Taunton Saturday League with an 11-1 loss away to Porlock, a result which enabled the West Someret side to keep in touch with the leaders in the division.

Wellington won only two of their 16 league matches and will finish bottom if fellow strugglers Wyvern United win one of their three remaining matches.

Warren Toth, who is stepping down as manager, said: “We have struggled to field a settled side throughout the season. I also feel that I have not had the full commitment of the players.

“There are also some very good teams in this division which is another reason we have struggled.”
