WELLINGTON AFC Wanderers Under 11s made the trip to Minehead for a competitive friendly - and delivered an impressive all-round performance, showcasing both their technical quality and tactical adaptability.

Experimenting with a new 2-4-2 formation, Wanderers embraced the challenge from the outset. The system allowed them to control large portions of the game, with strong movement through midfield and effective use of width, creating numerous attacking opportunities. The players adapted brilliantly to the tactical shift, demonstrating maturity and understanding well beyond their years.

Despite several players being deployed in unfamiliar roles, the team’s cohesion never wavered. Louis M and Rowan G, in particula,r stood out, both stepping into new positions and excelling with confident, composed displays. Their willingness to adapt epitomised the team’s collective spirit and determination.

Wellington’s fluent passing and intelligent movement were a constant threat, and their attacking efforts were rewarded with goals from Oakley S, Jude N, Riley L and Rex B. Each goal was a reflection of the team’s positive approach and ability to create chances through well-worked play.

Defensively, the side remained organised and resilient, ensuring Minehead were limited in their opportunities despite the competitive nature of the fixture. The balance between attack and defence highlighted the effectiveness of the new formation and the players’ ability to execute it.

Overall, it was a highly encouraging performance, not just in terms of the result but in the way the team approached the game. The willingness to try new ideas and adapt under pressure bodes well for the future development of this talented group.

A big thank you goes to Roadchef, the team’s shirt sponsor, and R&M Motor, the ball sponsor, for their continued back and to the many parents for their continued support of this exciting side.
