WELLINGTON Town made the short journey up the M5 this past Sunday to take on Bridgwater Wolves in a top-of-the-table clash in Division Two of the Under 16 section in the HO Soccer Taunton and District Youth Football League - and the boys came away with a splendid 3-0 victory.

After an evenly contested opening quarter, it was Town’s captain Oscar A who broke the deadlock - a spectacular 40-yard free kick finding the back of the net to put the visitors in front.

Although lacking possession throughout much of the first half, Town’s attacking threat was always evident, with Matt T coming close after bursting through the Wolves defence, before Gbuyi O doubled Town’s advantage on the stroke of half-time. It was an outstanding individual goal that saw the Welly striker outpace three Bridgwater defenders before slotting home from a tight angle.

Town’s threatening counter-attacking play continued to cause Wolves plenty of problems after the break, with joint players of the match Gbuyi O and Kobi C proving a constant threat going forward. But with Welly’s well-organised defence holding firm and a disciplined midfield working tirelessly in front of them, the hosts struggled to find a way back into the contest.

And when Matt T was brought down in the area on 71 minutes, the midfielder coolly converted from the spot to complete a resounding 3-0 victory - a result that sends Welly to the top of Division 2 and extends their 100 per cent record in the league to six matches.

Wellington now have a three-point lead at the top over Wolves with both teams having played five games.

Wellington are now set to play again until Sunday, November 8, when they play at home to Minehead Youth who are struggling at the bottom of the table and have yet to pick up a point.
