WELLINGTON Town made the short journey into Taunton over the past weekend to take on Tone Youth Wasps in a mid-table clash in Division One of the Under 15 section in the HO SoccerTaunton and District Youth League - and despite playing some stylish football lost 4-1.
Wasps found themselves a goal up inside the first five minutes after a good period of early play, but the visitors roared back by creating scoring chances of their own - Matt T coming the closest on the 10 minute mark as Wellington enjoyed large swathes of possession in the first quarter.
And after Tone were denied by three excellent saves from Town keeper George B, Welly got their reward for some fine first half football - Fletcher L being on target to take his season's goal tally to eight goals.
But five minutes from the break, Tone were in front again - a strike from the edge of the area finding the bottom right hand corner. Tone, now with the momentum behind them, doubled their lead shortly after half-time to make it 3-1.
And while Welly's persistence and determination were never in doubt, it was to be Tone's day - a superb long range strike 10 minutes from time ensuring a 4-1 win for the hosts.
This coming weekend, Sunday, December 7, Wellington Town U15 are at home to Wembdon Dragon U15 with a kick off time of 2 p.m.
Wellington are currently in tenth spot in the division while Wembdon Dragons are one off the bottom with only one victory from seven matches.
The 16-team division is currently being led by Middlezoy Rovers Mustangs who have won all seven of their matches and have a three-point lead over second-placed Bridgwater Victoria Park Rangers who are 100 per cent after six games.
