AFTER a heavy defeat the previous weekend, Wellington Under 13s bounced back to beat Sydenham Rangers 6-2 in the Taunton Youth League.

The home side went straight on the offensive with Harry N finding the net in the first 3 mins assisted by Theo K. The boys were on a high from the early goal and pushed on only for Blake M to find the net at 9 and 26 mins, assisted by Zach W and Jack M.

After moving up to 11 a side only this season the coaches took the opportunity to try players in different positions which ultimately paid off with Jack M finding the back of the net at 35 mins. After dominating the game for the first half Wellington went to the break 4-0 up.

After half time Sydenham came out with a little more fight and started applying the pressure to the home side but the Wellington boys held fast and continued to create some great link ups to push forward. The ball bounced out of the away box to land at the feet of midfielder Zach W who after a few little turns took his chance and went for goal with a worldy effort finding the top corner at 45 mins.

The away side once again started to apply pressure and the Wellington boys found themselves conceding a goal. This put the wind back into Sydenham who kept on the gas and after a collision with the home keeper they won a penalty which was skillfully put away.

At 64 mins Wellington’s Jack F found himself running the midfield towards the away goal and getting himself in a position to take a shot which he did subsequently finding the back of the net to put Wellington 6-2 up.

Manager Steve Newstead said “ I’m really happy for the boys after a heavy defeat last week.”
