WELLINGTON Wildcats’ Under 12s ended their first season of competitive football by playing Isle of Wedmore in the League Cup Final - and just missed out, losing 2-0.
On a beautifully sunny day the final kicked off with both teams trying to get a foothold in the game early on. After an exchange of possession Wedmore won the first corner of the game and the cross to the near post was met with a volley to put Wedmore 1-0 in front.
Wildcats fought back and created some chances of their own, especially from some corners that were perfectly delivered by Millie G but they never seemed to fall to a Wildcat boot. The half ended 1-0 but with the Wildcats in the ascendancy.
The second half continued as the first ended but when the Wildcats created chances the luck always seemed to go with the defending team.
With a tactical change the Wildcats moved to employ two strikers and push for the equaliser. Unfortunately luck wasn’t with the Wildcats and a goal kick fell to a Wedmore player whose resulting long shot was initially saved by goalkeeper Remi S but unfortunately rolled over the line for 2-0.
The Wildcats worked tirelessly to get back in the game, but it seemed that it just wasn’t going to be their day.
Player of the match was awarded to Remi S for some fine saves in goal and Maria G for some tireless work in midfield. The Wildcats were runners up on this occasion but should be extremely proud of their achievement in being finalists. Here’s to next season.
Meanwhile, Wildcats’ Under 15s gained an impressive 4–2 win over a determined Midsomer Norton in their League Cup Final, securing their first trophy after a strong second half of the season.
With the wind behind them, Wildcats started confidently and used the conditions well. After early pressure from Midsomer, a quick counter saw Emilia S break through and calmly open the scoring. The game flowed well, with Immy M and Frankie P combining effectively on the right, while Flo G posed a constant threat on the left. Midsomer responded with a fine strike to equalise, but the setback sparked the Wildcats into another gear.
Strong midfield play, led by Hallie SH, Flo N, and later Faith NH and Lily F, gave Wildcats control and momentum. Faith restored the lead with a composed finish, before Flo G converted from a well-delivered corner. Continued pressure created further chances, and Faith added another with a powerful low strike from outside the box. A solid save from Lleya T ensured a 4–1 lead at half-time.
Midsomer started the second half brightly, even having an early ‘goal’ ruled out for offside. Wildcats stayed focused under pressure, limiting chances through disciplined defending. Kacie W worked tirelessly in midfield, while captain Jess B and Isla C were outstanding at the back. Willow P and Darcey B battled well on the left, helping maintain defensive stability.
Despite creating further chances, Wildcats couldn’t extend their lead. Midsomer pulled one back late on, but Wildcats remained composed to see out the game and secure a deserved victory.
The strong support on the day added to a memorable occasion. The team’s resilience, development, and unbeaten run in tough fixtures made this triumph especially rewarding—proof of what they can achieve together.
