WELLINGTON Wanderers AFC Under 11s kicked off their first match at Dobree Park with a confident and composed performance against their counterparts from Ruishton, bringing their league campaign to an impressive close.
From the outset, Wellington showed signs of promise, enjoying spells of controlled football in the first half. While clear-cut scoring chances were limited, the team looked comfortable and well-organised, particularly in defence where they looked very solid under pressure.
A strong foundation at the back proved crucial, with Rosco P providing assurance in goal, and making several remarkable saves, and the defensive pairing of Louis M and Kohen W standing firm against any Ruishton attacks. Their positioning, communication, and composure ensured Wellington remained secure, allowing the team to build play from deep with confidence.
As the game progressed into the second half, Wellington raised their level significantly and this left Ruishton very much on the back foot. Ball retention improved, and the home team began to dictate the tempo, moving the ball with greater purpose and control. Their passing became sharper, and their teamwork more evident, as they worked tirelessly for one another across the pitch.
Every player contributed to what was a great team performance. The effort, determination, and positive attitude shown by the squad highlighted their development over the past season. It was a fitting way to end their league campaign, demonstrating both their growth as individuals and their strength as a team.
A big thank you goes to Roadchef, who sponsor the team’s shirts, for their continued support throughout the season, as well as R&M Motor, the ball sponsor, whose contribution is greatly appreciated.
And, of course, parents and supporters must be thanked for their loyalty over a long and enjoyable season.
