MADISIN L earned Wellington Wildcats’ Player of the Match in the Under 11s game vs Bishops Lydeard, for her energy, smart decision-making, and relentless work rate, contributing to a disciplined and confident team display. The game demonstrated strong teamwork, determination and skill; they fought hard for every ball, defended confidently and linked well in midfield to create attacking opportunities. Communication and effort were outstanding, reflecting the training they've been working on.
The Under 13s faced Minehead away on a smaller pitch, making ball movement challenging. The match was fiercely contested, with both sides creating chances but unable to find the net. Unfortunately, a sliced clearance from the Wildcats resulted in an own goal, giving Minehead a 1-0 lead at halftime. Despite relentless effort in the second half and numerous attempts to equalise, the Wildcats' 24-game unbeaten league streak came to an end with a 1-0 defeat. Evelyn S was Player of the Match, recognised for her persistence and resilience throughout the game.
The Under 14s travelled to face Winscombe for the second time this season. The game began with a respectful Remembrance Day silence. Wildcats dominated early possession, creating several chances met by the home ‘keeper. Faith D made some excellent saves to keep the score close, but they went behind just before halftime. In the second half, Wildcats pushed forward, with attempts from Cheyenne C and Ruby A narrowly missing the target. Winscombe extended their lead to 2-0 after a corner led to a scramble in the box. Despite continued attacking effort, the Wildcats couldn’t find the net, and the game finished 3-0. Amelia W and Faith D received joint Player of the Match for their resilience and strong performance.
The Under 15s' first-ever County Cup match against Sporting Weston went down to penalties. The game started with brave goalkeeping from Sophie W in the opening minute before Wildcats quickly settled into their attacking style, with Flo N scoring early after a mazy run, and Isla C doubling the lead with a free kick from 25 yards.
Despite Sporting's efforts, Wildcats' solid defence, led by Captain Jess B, kept them at bay. Just before halftime, Sporting scored to make it 2-1.
Starting how they finished the first half Sporting quickly equalised levelling the game for the final 35 minutes. Wildcats responded swiftly with Emilia S breaking through to restore the lead at 3-2. The match grew tense when a superb run from Sporting equalised once more, setting up a thrilling 15-minute period. Both teams fought hard, but the game ended in a 3-3 draw.
The match was decided by a penalty shootout, which Sporting won 3-2. Wildcats played with bravery, character and determination, making their hard work and team spirit evident. Sophie W was jointly awarded Player of the Match for her bravery in goal with Jess B’s leadership and vocal presence inspired the team throughout.
Despite the loss, the Wildcats' performance was their best as a team, reflecting their progress, courage, and potential for future success.
Meanwhile, Wellington Wildcats play away to Pen Mill Vixens in Under 12 South Division on Saturday, November 15, while Wildcats’ Under 13s are home to Paulton Rovers at The Rec (11.30a.m.).
Wildcats’ Under 14s play Ilminster - also at The Rec (9.30a.m.) - while Wildcats’ Under 16s are away to Portishead Town Pumas.
