WELLINGTON’S football friendly at home to Nailsea United this afternoon (Sat) has been called off, not because of the extreme heat but because the opposition cannot raise a side.
The match was due to be played on the all-weather pitch at Court Fields School.
Wellington kicked off the season under new boss Tornado Bello with a 5-0 loss in a warm-up game away to Elmore last week which was played at Witheridge.
Wellington fielded an ‘experimental side’ - a mix of new faces with several members of last season’s squad.
Next up for Wellington is a short trip to Bishops Lydeard which has been moved from Tuesday to Thursday.
Wellington’s season in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League gets underway on Saturday, July 25, when they play away to Bovey Tracey who won Premier East in the South West Peninsula League last season. They finished nine points clear of second-placed Bridport, losing only two matches.
It will be a tough opener for player-manager Bello who has taken over from Richard Cherry who stepped down during the close season.
