WELLINGTON AFC’s Under 18s are enjoying an outstanding season in South Division of the Western Counties Floodlight Youth Football League.

They chalked up their sixth win in eight matches in the league when they hammered Frome Town 10-0 at the Carly Press Ground on Tuesday night which took them to the top of the table. They have a three-point lead over second-placed Chard Town who have two matches in hand. There was a double hat-trick for Sami Weir against Frome, while the other goals came from skipper Harry Chetland, Chris Amponsah, Oliver Southcott - and there was also an own goal. Their squad includes a number of players who have already appeared for Wellington’s first team in the Jewson Western League and Reserves in the Premier Division of the Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter League. They have now completed half of their league fixtures. Next up is a local derby at home to Bridgwater United U18s on Tuesday, November 2, ko 7.30pm.

Bridgwater are lying sixth in the table but have played only four matches, with only one victory. They lost 4-0 at home to Willand Rovers in their last match earlier this month.

Wellington’s first team also have a game against Bridgwater United in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League at the Carly Press Ground, next Wednesday, November 3, ko 7.45.

But, before this, Wellington have an away game against struggling AFC St Austell - also in the Jewson League. Wellington go into the game in 16th spot, having won five, drawn three and lost nine of their 17 games.

However, the Cornish side are holding up the table, still without a point after losing all 19 of their league matches. They are five points adrift at the bottom.

The current leaders of the division are Clevedon Town, who have a four-point lead over second-placed Sidmouth, having lost only three of their 18 matches. Torpoint also have the same number of points as Sidmouth and have four matches in hand on Clevedon.
