WELLINGTON’S away tie against Shepton Mallet in the Jewson Western League’s Les Phillips Cup on Tuesday night, January 6, was called off because of a frozen pitch. Under competition rules, the tie will now be switched to Wellington’s Carly Press Ground and will be played on Wednesday, January 14.
The winners will be at home to Cheddar in the quarter-finals on the following Saturday, January 17.
The Tangerines’ league game in the Premier Division at home to Oldland Abbotonians last weekend was also a victim of the bitterly cold weather and will now be played by Saturday, January 31.
Meanwhile, weather permitting, Wellington will be looking to get back into action when they are due to play away to goal-hungry Paulton Rovers in the Premier Division.
Rovers were the big winners of the day last weekend when they beat leaders Clevedon Town 3-0 away. It was their fifth victory in six league games in which they have scored 29 goals.
It also enabled them to move up to third in the table, six points behind Clevedon with both sides having played the same number of matches.
Sandwiched between the two teams were Torpoint Athletic, with only one defeat in 22 matches.

Wellington Reserves, who drew 2-2 away to Clyst Valley last Saturday in the Premier Division of the Devon & Exeter League, play at home to East Budleigh in a league match on Saturday, January 10.
Wellington A, bottom of the first division in the Premier Division of the Taunton & District League without a point, play North Petherton on the all-weather pitch at Court Fields School (2.00).
