WELLINGTON Tennis Club has gained planning approval for its application for a third court.
Club chairman Sue said: “This application has involved nearly all national sporting agencies.
“The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) backed the application stating we had a thriving coaching programme and membership for a club with only two courts and required a third court to continue to grow membership.
“The Football Association were satisfied with our proposals about the second pitch moving down five metres and Sport England agreed with the FA. Finally, the English Cricket Board made ‘no comment’ so we assumed they did not see the moving of the football pitch as a significant threat to the cricket square.”
She added: “The third court will make a huge impact on the club as it will mean more court time available for members and the public during junior coaching sessions, club nights and matches. We hope to attract wheel chair tennis players as they will have better access to a court.
“I am grateful to Wellington Town Council for their approval but would like to acknowledge Janet Reed’ s staunch support and encouragement throughout this difficult process, especially when we were flooded with objections.
