KINGSMEAD School, Wiveliscombe, student Olivia Lake (pictured) is making a name for herself in the golfing world, writes Richard Walsh.

The 13-year-old, who lives at Bishops Lydeard, took up golf three years ago, after being introduced to the game by her grandfather who has been playing at Enmore for over 30 years.

Since then Olivia has reduced her handicap to 30 and recently won the first Junior Medal of the season at Enmore Park with 43 Stableford points.

The youngster’s talents have been spotted by the county and she is a member of the Somerset Girls Performance Squad who meet regularly throughout the year.

Olivia recently played for the Somerset Girls team against Devon at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club, where she won her game and along with playing partner Lucy Stevenson, who is a member at T&P, helped to secure a victory for the county.

One of Olivia’s heroes is Rory McIlroy who she watched play last year at the PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Olivia said: “My ambition is to continue to improve my golf and to reduce my handicap. I’d like to achieve a sport’s scholarship to Millfield School – and one day become a professional golfer and travel the world playing golf.”
