WELLINGTON are without a first team rugby maxtch this coming weekend – after their best display of the season at Keynsham over the weekend.
Injury-hit Wellington drew 8-8 in Western Counties North against a side lying second in the table.
‘We played well enough to have won it,’ said Wellington’s player-coach Matt Parsons.
“They never got into our half in the second half.
“We put too much pressure on ourselves the previous weekend when they lost at home to Bristol Harlequins.
“I think it was Keynsham who were under pressure because we were not expected to beat them.
“Obviously not having a game this weekend is a big disappointment. However it will give the players a chance to get over some niggling injuries.
“It also gives players with serious injuries an extra Saturday in which to get fit again.
“Our skipper Micky Norman has been out since before Christmas and he could be back in a couple of weeks.”
Wellington’s next game will be at home on Saturday week to leaders Matson who have won all 16 of their matches this season.
It is also a blank weekend for Wellington 2nd XV although they are hoping to arrange a game for their seconds who have been playing some good rugby and are up to sixth in Somerset One.
The seconds were due to play Chard 2nd XV at home on Saturday but the game was postponed because of the state of the pitch at the Athletic Ground.
Wiveliscombe have a double header at home this weekend with the lst XV playing Old Reds in Somerset Premier and the 2nd XV in action against Somerton in Somerset Two South.
