WELLINGTON will be looking to keep up the pressure at the top of Western Counties West when they play away to struggling Saltash on Saturday.

The Cornish side were promoted along with Wellington last season but they have not enjoyed the best of starts, losing all five of their league games so far.

“We’re not quite sure what has been happening down there but we’ll find out when we go there on Saturday,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland.

“I don’t think they have lost many players but it is never easy going down to play them.”

Wellington beat Paignton 27-6 on Saturday to extend their unbeaten home record which now stretches back 18 months.

Chetland added: “We’re improving all the time. This is a new league for us and it presents a fresh challenge every week. But things are good at the moment.”

Wellington are hoping that Jack Richards, Ryan Marke and George Hodgson, all sidelined through injury over the weekend, will be available for Saturday’s game.

Wellington are lying third in the table, and trail the leaders Crediton, the only side to have beaten them, by three points and second-placed Sidmouth by two points.

Wiveliscombe’s 100 per cent start to the season will be at stake when they play away to Weston super Mare’s 2nd XV. Although they have made a really good start Wiveliscombe have been picking up injuries on a weekly basis.

They have a two-point lead at the top of the table over second-placed Avon who play away to Imperial who lost 38-15 at Wiveliscombe over the weekend after leading 15-14 at one stage in the second-half.

Wellington 2nd XV, fifth in Somerset One, are home to their North Petherton counterparts in Somerset One while Wiveliscombe 2nd XV have a derby match away to Minehead Barbarians 2nd XV in Somerset Two South.
