WELLINGTON’S veteran scrum-half Tim Jenkinson has not ruled out the possibility of playing again next season.
Jenkinson, now 38, said: "I will be involved in pre-season and see how it goes from there.
"If I feel I can contribute to the side in some way I will continue to play. But I haven’t made up my mind yet. Last season I was involved in the squad 18 or 19 times.
"We’ve lost a lot of players around the 30-year-old mark which means we lack experience."
Meanwhile, there is a doubt over the availability of Jenkinson’s 19-year-old son and scrum half Corey Jenkinson, who broke into Wellington’s first team last season, for the coming winter. Ironically, he often kept his dad out of the side.
Tim explained: "Corey is one of a number of lads who have come up through the youth set-up at the club. A club like ours relies heavily on players coming up out of the Colts.
"Corey’s at university in Plymouth and found it hard to attend training sessions in midweek which made it difficult for him on match days. He had to pick up things about training on Saturdays which is not ideal.
"And there is a possibility that he may not be ablez to play for Wellington next season as he gets more involved at university.
"At the moment I simply don’t know whether he will be able to play, which is a pity."
Wellington’s side which won the Cornwall and Devon League and the Somerset Vase last season included a number of home-grown players.
"I think they were a little more street-wise than they were the previous season," added Jenkinson, who was one of Wellington’s assistant coaches last winter.
"They have developed together and they bond well which also makes for good team spirit."
