WELLINGTON will be chasing their eighth successive rugby win when they play at home to struggling Wessex in the Cornwall and Devon League on Saturday (2.30).
They had no match over the weekend but will be hoping to continue where they left off last Saturday week when they beat Withycombe 23-0 away.
“We’re playing some of our best rugby of the season so we would have liked to have played over the weekend,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland yesterday.
“We’ve conceded only three points in our last three games which is pretty good. Wessex have won only once this season but we must not take anything for granted.”
Wellington are expecting to field a near full strength side, although they will be waiting on the fitness of winger Neville Pitman (head injury) and former skipper and No 8 Mick Norman (groin). Cam Venn, who can play at No 8 and in the second row, has also rejoined the club.
Wellington were last beaten in mid-September when they were unlucky to lose 19-14 away to Penryn who go into their game this weekend with a three-point lead at the top over second-placed Saltash with Wellington a point further adrift.
Wellington have been particularly impressive defensively and have shut out the opposition in three of their last seven matches. They have also beaten Saltash along the way.
