SOMERSET take a break from LV+Championship action for the rest of this month to make way for The Hundred competition.

With just three games left to play in the four day competition, the one remaining trophy which Somerset has never lifted in their 148 year history, the Cidermen sit in fifth place in the ten-team Division One, so it looks highly likely they will retain their place at the top table of the Blue Riband event in 2024.

Somerset have played 11 matches, three of which they have won, they have lost three and drawn five, and have got 125 points, which includes 25 batting bonus points, second only to leaders Surrey who have 24, and 31 bowling points, which is only bettered by Surrey and Notts.

During the course of their last home game James Rew became the first batter in the top division of the championship to pass 1000 runs for the season- which is quite a remarkable achievement for a 19 year old.

His runs contain seven scores in excess of 50, five of which he has converted into centuries with a best of 221. He is the youngest Somerset batter to top 1000 runs in a season and also the youngest double for the county.

Rew is the stand out batter in the side this season and tops the Somerset averages, having notched up 1034 runs at an averages of 64.63. Next in the batting averages is Kasey Aldridge, who has totalled 451 at 41 this season, followed by skipper Tom Abell with 556 at 34.75 and Tom Kohler-Cadmore with 583 at 34.29.

Somerset fans will get their chance to watch Rew in white ball action over the next few weeks during which the county will be playing four home matches in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

The opening match for Somerset in the One Day Cup is against Warwickshire at home tomorrow (Fri) starting at 2pm, after which they host Worcestershire on Sunday starting at 11am.
