WELLINGTON’S rugby head coach Matt Parsons remains upbeat despite his side’s narrow defeat at Bristol Harlequins on Saturday, their third successive away loss in Western Counties North, writes Barry Knott.
Wellington went down 15-9 despite dominating much of the game and creating the better chances.
“I was pleased with the performance but obviously not with the result,” said Parsons afterwards. “It was probably our best display of the season. It was a step forward and not a step back, if you know what I mean. We were held up twice over their line and we should have had a penalty try. We have to turn our opportunities into points,” added Parsons who picked up a leg injury during the game and has welcomed the first team’s blank Saturday coming up.
Dan Lee also suffered concussion and skipper skipper Norman damaged his shoulder.
Wellington are also likely to be without veteran and former skipper Tim Jenkinson for at least a month with a knee injury.
“Jenks has been unlucky with injuries over the past couple of seasons, but he’s still keen to get back playing as soon as possible,” said Parsons.
Wellington 2nd XV, who are also without a game this coming weekend, drew 21-21 at home against their North Petherton counterparts in Somerset One over the weekend - their second draw of the season.
Wiveliscombe, who beat Chew Valley 16-10 on Saturday in Somerset Premier, also have a rest day this weekend along with their 2nd XV.
Wiveliscombe are lying seventh in the table.
