WELLINGTON’S squash-playing mayor Gary James has dreamt up a new way of raising cash for charity – he plans to play 70 games in a day.

Gary, who has played at international level, reaches the ripe old age of 70 on Saturday, September 9 – the day of his squash marathon.

“I thought it would be nice to do something different,” said Gary who was installed as mayor earlier this year.

The charities to benefit are Wellington Hospital League of Friends, Genesis Youth Theatre Group in Eight Acre Lane and Reminiscence Learning. He will also be raising money for Wellington and Wyvern Squash Clubs.
