A 44-TONNE juggernaut became wedged between two cars for nearly two hours in Priory, Wellington, last Friday morning (September 17).
Lorry driver Dave Simler, from Kent, found himself unable to go forward or back because two parked cars did not leave him enough room.
The road is a direct route to the nearby trading estate and Mr Simler said: “The cars shouldn’t have been parked there.
“If I had tried to reverse I would have hit a road sign on the corner. I couldn’t go forward because I couldn’t straighten up properly.”
The lorry blocked the road forcing traffic at both ends to turn around and go in a different direction. The lorry was eventually ‘freed’ when someone who lives locally moved one of the cars.
St John’s Primary School crossing patrol officer Mandy Wyatt, of Priory, who was off work sick on Friday, said: “I noticed the lorry driver was in trouble and I went out to see if I could help him.
“The lorry driver was over an hour and a half late for his next destination. It’s ridiculous – how they park down here, it’s awful.”
One bystander said: “This is the main route to the trading estate and we’re continually having problems with cars parking by St John’s School.
“It seems that no-one wants to know and that it is up to the lorry drivers to complain.”
The police were not on the scene because they had ‘no officers available’.
