A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a van collided with a bus carrying 35 passengers on the M5 near Wellington on Thursday night (November 27).
Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that the van driver was arrested on suspicion of driving over the legal limit for alcohol and driving whilst unfit through drink.
He has since been released under investigation.
Traffic on the motorway was brought to a standstill for several hours and motorists were said to have left their vehicles and moved roadworks cones to help emergency services pass through.
Both Wellington fire engines and one from Taunton were sent to the scene of the two-vehicle crash on the southbound carriageway at about 8 pm.
There were no reports of any serious injuries.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at around 8pm on Thursday 27 November to a road traffic collision near Wellington. We sent one double-crewed land ambulance, and an operations officer and a doctor to the scene.”
No one was conveyed to hospital.
