POLICE in Wellington have been cracking

down on anti-social behaviour by youths in

the town, particularly at The Park.

Over the past ten days plain clothes officers

have apprehended eight youngsters in The

Park after dark following damage to locks and

the shelter, and the old changing room building

at The Rec which was torched.

Seven youths have been banned from The

Park for six months and another for 12

months. They must also pay for any damage.

The youths, who were not in The Park at

the same time, have been advised that if they

go there again they will be given a civil penalty

notice by the council which will go to their

parents.

Police will continue to monitor the situation

and park warden patrols will be

increased.

The police have also had to deal with antisocial

behaviour at The Court nearby, while

shutters have been put up at the back of the

old King’s Arms building in the High Street

after youths entered the premises and lit a

fire.

Youths involved are having to go to Choice

and Consequences workshops.
