VISITORS to Wellington Monument are again being asked to take keep valuables in their cars out of sight.

Police have reported an increase in the number of cars being broken into left parked at the monument.

PC Hayden Smith told members of Wellington Town Council that criminals were more likely to target cars if items such as coats, phones and sat-navs were left on display.

“Please don’t leave anything on show in parked cars up at Wellington Monument,” he said. “We do patrol up there on a regular basis but these crimes are still taking place.”
